Probate
When someone dies their estate has to be dealt with . This may be by a person appointed under a Will if they had one or if not there is a strict order for who can apply for a Grant to deal with the estate. Not all estates have to obtain a Grant but if there is a property that is owned or the estate is over a set value then a Grant will have to be obtained. Fixed fees to deal with a deceased's estate will often depend on the value of the estate , whether any inheritance tax will need to be paid and the complexity of the estate. Fixed fees may also be offered as 'packaged' services to assist with completing specific forms or documents needed along the way rather than dealing with the whole matter, eg completion of the inheritance tax forms or drafting the Oath. Please ensure that you know exactly what is included in the fixed fee that you have been offered and check any disbursements that would also need to be included such as Probate application fees.
